THE REASON WE'RE HERE:
This site is a resource for those who want
a better or cheaper alternative to the landline
phone and broadband services from their local
phone or cable company. We don't think those
companies are evil. In some cases they can
provide a very reliable and competitive product.
Today, with so many communications choices,
you can tailor these services to your own
unique requirements, and either save a lot
of money, or get a lot more features for
your money. Our focus is on wireless connections
which include cellular and broadband alternatives,
with some discussion of re-sellers and long-distance-only
companies. We began this site in response
to the increasing popularity of "wireless
substitution", the idea that wireless
is the only communications connection you
need. Check out the Alternatives and find out how many other options are
available, and use our Checklist to make sure you consider all the Pro's
and Con's of living without a wire to your
home.
Our expenses are paid by a small commission
from "affiliate" advertising links.
If you ever buy any cellular, wireless or
broadband service or accessories online,
we would really appreciate you doing so by clicking on any
of the advertising banners or links you see
on our site, like the ones on the left, or
shop on our Discount Page. Even if you're not buying today, we might
get credit if you visit one of those sites
later. We also accept advertising, but our reviews
are never influenced by any advertiser (although
they've tried). We welcome your suggestions and encourage corrections and updates.

OUR FOCUS:
In a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control:
- The CDC reported that 24.5 percent of U.S.
households used only
wireless phones in the
second half of 2009,
up from 22.7 percent
in the first half of
the year. In addition,
one of every seven households
had a landline
but received almost all
their calls on cell
phones.
- The agency also found major differences in
wireline defection across
age and demographic
groups. Nearly half of
adults between the
ages of 25 and 29 lived
in wireless-only
households compared to
just 14.9 percent
of adults between the
ages of 45 and 64.
-
The findings were released
in the agency's
preliminary results from
its July–December
2009 National Health
Interview Survey (NHIS).
The NHIS information
on household telephone
status was obtained for
21,375 households
that included at least
one civilian adult
or child. These households
included 40,619
civilian adults aged
18 years and over and
14,984 children under
age 18.
